As the sport of wrestling continues to grow (with at least some thanks going to the increasing popularity of MMA), weight training for wrestling has become a very sought after. There are two major issues that I’ve seen with weight training for wrestling programs in my years of experience.

MMA fighters, however, need to have strength, power, strength and power endurance, relative strength, muscular endurance, speed, and both aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. This is why MMA weight training needs to be very thought out and specific.

I was always more of a runner, walker, biker. I never really lifted weights. Now that I’m a bit older I think I should start including a bit of weight training. I know it’s good for the bones! first thing you should know is that control and stability – which are
key factors in both speed and agility – are best developed through
weight training. This is because weight training allows you to put a
significant amount of strain – read pressure – on your desired joints
and their affiliated muscles. As you probably know, the way to develop
strength is by subjecting your muscles to the highest amounts of
tensions they can sustain. This creates tears in the muscles which the
body then fixes, this process makes the muscle stronger, so the next
time you train you will be able to subject it to much more tension.

The bodybuilding community has been the source of many of weight training’s principles, techniques, vocabulary, and customs. Weight training does allow tremendous flexibility in exercises and weights which can allow bodybuilders to target specific muscles and muscle groups, as well as attain specific goals. This article was about to really pi** me off till i seen how many people knew the truth. the article is titled wrong.. it should be titles cardio vs biceps curls: which one burns more fat?? the majority of people in the gym dont do complex exercises anyway (deadlifts, squats, bench press) so if you compare cardio to some pansy weight lifting and arent really putting some effort into it then just give up there and get back on your bike. i’m in the middle of my diet (oh and both are completely useless to burn fat without deit FYI) and i’ve already dropped from 15% body fat to 10% with just weight training alone.

Do not rely on videos alone to learn how to do the exercises, they are useful but you definitely need a good book on weight training.

Other compound exercises such as bench press and shoulder press can help you lose weight. Just make sure you are following a low calorie diet and the specified rep range 15-2 Bench pressing may actually burn more calories since it uses your chest,triceps, and shoulders. Find the suitable weight that allows you to complete 15-20 for about 3-4 sets. Ask someone who knows how to bench press before attempting for proper form if you do not know how to execute. Proper form is usually easier to maintain when in the 15-20 rep anyway. Shedding those extra pounds can definitely be done with weight training.
